Feeding Your Fly Pupae: You do not need to feed your fly pupae.
Toxic fumes can be very dangerous to your fly pupae including insecticides, cleaning products, dog shampoos, flea products, car fumes, smoke, etc.
Housing Your Live Fly Pupae: Live flies pupae will develop into flies within a week.
Their development can be slowed for an extra week or so by refrigerating at about 6 Degrees C. After 2 weeks, the amount of flies that will be produced declines.
If only a small amount of flies are needed, simply take a teaspoon of pupae from the fridge and put them into your animal enclosure. A few days later flies will emerge and become a pleasant snack for your pet.
Frozen Fly Pupae: Frozen fly pupae will not hatch into flies. They will last two weeks in a refrigerator or up to 6 months in a freezer.
Feeding Frozen Fly Pupae to Your Pet: Thaw the frozen fly pupae before feeding. For animals that are stimulated to eat by movement, mix the thawed fly pupae with live food such as mealworms.
