Live Fly Pupae Care Sheet

Fly Pupae

PetWave fly pupae are pupae of the House Fly (Mustica domestica) and are bred to produce live flies for feeding to your pet. Flies have four stages of life: egg, larvae, pupa and adult fly. Fly Pupae transform into a fly 4 to 5 days after purchasing.

PetWave Premium Quality Flies can be added to the diet of many animals to help provide variety in a balanced and naturally nutritious diet. As active movers, live flies are also perfect for animals who are stimulated by the movement of live food in order to eat.

Flies Pupae are suitable for feeding to the following pets:

Housing Your Live Fly Pupae: Live flies pupae will develop into flies within a week.

Their development can be slowed for an extra week or so by refrigerating at about 6 Degrees C.  After 2 weeks, the amount of flies that will be produced declines.

If only a small amount of flies are needed, simply take a teaspoon of pupae from the fridge and put them into your animal enclosure. A few days later flies will emerge and become a pleasant snack for your pet.

Frozen Fly Pupae: Frozen fly pupae will not hatch into flies. They will last two weeks in a refrigerator or up to 6 months in a freezer.

Feeding Frozen Fly Pupae to Your Pet: Thaw the frozen fly pupae before feeding. For animals that are stimulated to eat by movement, mix the thawed fly pupae with live food such as mealworms.
